Belboz was in the process of hiding the crown when he heard the guards
entering the dungeons. He swore, then put it behind a stack of tomes,
covered it with some of them, and then threw a filthy cloak over all that.
He then ran as quick as he could to greet the guards. The guards (six of them) were standing outside the heavy iron gate to the dungeons. The one in front rang the rusty bell (with a sign saying 'Ring for Service') over and over. "Belboz!" he yelled, "come on we don't have all day." "Coming, stop ringing that damn bell," said Belboz, putting on his most curmudgeonly attitude. "Hold your horses!" He then went over and slowly unlocked the gate, swinging it open. "Come on in, what can this dungeon master do for the king's elite?" "Can it, Belboz," said the Captain, whom Belboz recognized as Artur. He was one of the few old guard left in a position of authority from the Emry days. That meant that these were High Guard, and so Belboz would not be able to verbally abuse them out of his dungeon. Damn. That had been plan A. Oh well, on to plan B. Belboz quickly adopted a sincere (he hoped) smile as Artur continued. "The King's crown has been stolen. We are here to do two things. I am to verify that Astra is still chained up, not that your ability is doubted, of course, and then we are to search all of the dungeons including your personal quarters and the sub-basement." "My quarters?" asked Belboz, sounding hurt, "Surely Reaibn is not accusing his loyal dungeon master of-" but the Captain interrupted him and raised his hand placatingly. "Of course not, Belboz, but we have to be thorough. Your personal things will not be thrown about, only I will go into your personal quarters and you can come with me. Light knows I don't want to accidentally release a hideous demon or spring a magical trap." "Indeed," said Belboz, with a twinkle in his eye. "So, first things first, my men will start on inspecting the first floor dungeons, while I verify Astra's imprisonment." "Of course," said Belboz.
